10 (out of 10)

This is one of those bands a friend of mine told me about, then a few months later I heard their first album "The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch" and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Cute Is What We Aim For is not just another run of the mill rock band trying to make it big. In fact, I still feel like this band is a very well kept secret, only for those out there who really want to experience some well crafted songs by excellent musicians and song writers.

Shaant has a unique falsetto voice that is always on the verge of a mid-whisper but still has command over each song. The group does its own version of pop-progressive rock with passionately orchestrated sections and sparse keys overlaid with melodic guitars. This blend works out to make an excellent album that is easily left on repeat for hours at a time on my home stereo.

I love the fact that Cute Is What We Aim For can pull off letting its ‘90s influences be heard without letting them take over every aspect of each song. Many bands try to incorporate too many tributes or throwbacks into its music and end up just being redundant. "Rotation" steers clear of that trend and ends up being a real gem, like any good album should be.

However, there are moments on "Rotation" where the title feels more like a plea than a smug invitation; moments after the congregation goes home and the doors close and the light through the stained-glass window goes dim and the thought dawns that maybe I really am in a some state of rotation, is what i'm listening to this amazing or is their something in the air, trust me it's all Cute Is What We Aim For be on the lookout for "Rotation" dropping the 24th. They aim to please in every way!
