| With their first album "On Frail Wings.." being the first to be released on the then newly formed
Tragic Hero Records, I knew there was something to these guys. The six piece first started playing
in MD but truly formed in NC back in 2004. And after signing to Fearless Records and rereleasing
their first album, they have pulled their talents together to release their long awaited sophomore
album "Where Myth Fades To Legend."
Following close to bands like Drop Dead, Gorgeous and The Devil Wear Prada, Alesana is a melodic
hardcore band complete with layers of intricate guitars, the screamo/singing set of vocals, and the
rabid energy that many in the genre are known for. And even though they follow closely to those
bands, they still have their unique style that lets you know that this isn't the every day hardcore.
That being said, these guys sometimes feel like they aren't tapping into the complete professional
sound that others have. For instance, a band like Our Last Night's last album had flawless
production and presentation, where at times this album feels like it's (well for lack of a better
word) sloppy. It's not the whole record, and songs like "Seduction" show off what the album truly
has to offer because it's infectious and melodic as the best out there.
So if you need another band to add to your melodic hardcore IV drop, then this is a no brainer and
Alesana will be a great fit. But the occasional out of tune vocals and not completely reliable
presentation leads me wanting more. I heard someone call Alesana the new Aiden (which is hilarious
because Aiden is horrible) and while I disagree because "Where Myth Fades To Legend" is chock full
of catchy rhythm and melody not to mention hard breakdowns and swift guitars, I think Alesana
better watch where they go from here. You wouldn't want to become the next Aiden.
