| It took a while for this album to reach my stereo, but not because I didn't want to listen to it. In fact it was the exact opposite; I wanted to listen to it when I knew I was ready. Akissforjersey is from the great state of NC and with their new album "Victims" already in stores, I knew I had to jump on this record so you guys could know what’s up.
I've noticed a continuing trend (which is by no means bad) of bands that are in the same vein as Underoath, Dance Gavin Dance, and Destroy The Runner coming out of nowhere and tearing up the scene. Akissforjersey is a prime example of this, as they are musical cousins to the bands mentioned above. Now are you thinking to yourselves, "Well then why would I listen to the same old thing?" Well the thing about this trend is that they all feel fresh and original (not to mention amazing) every time.
Akissforjersey lets loose beautiful melodic guitars and ropes together the tried and true scream/sing vocal standard (and they do it right) as many seem to miss the mark in that department. I really only have one word for this album, "beautiful." Simple word I agree, but the mature progression, the elegant melodies, the stunning vocals, as well as the raging hardcore parts fit together like seamless puzzle pieces. Akissforjersey is a self proclaimed Christian band, but like Underoath, the lyrics/general message isn't affected by this very much. (It is a little)
There's really no reason for you to not to check out this outing of melodic hardcore. Nicely measured balances of soft/smooth and hard/tough make "Victims" a must listen. I personally hope this trend continues because there have been so many great albums to surface from it and Akissforjersey has not disappointed one bit. You will get AkissforgivingthisCDasagift.
