7.5 (out of 10)

Usually when I introduce myself to someone new I don't do it by screaming anything, but I might take a queue from Scream Hello and see if I can scare the crap out of the next person I meet by screaming an introduction at the top of my lungs. The new EP, "Smart & Stupid" from this group of 4 from Jersey is 4 tracks that seek to say hello to old and new listeners.

In the vein of bands like Dear Tonight and End Of The Year, this EP features a gaggle of feel good indie rock that never stops. While it isn't complicated and some sections are rather rudimentary, Scream Hello keeps the flow and catchy riffs coming through in each song. To me, this EP is just another example of how a band doesn't have to have major label backage and tons of production to make a memorable effort.

"Smart & Stupid" is just that kind of effort. It is cute and has a lot of personality. Will I abundantly listen to this EP? Probably not, but it was a nice distraction that I might revisit from time to time. I will still scream "hi!" to the next person I meet, just to see how they react. Thanks Scream Hello.
