Sometimes you wonder if bands think of themselves as discreet. On Bloodbath's new EP "Unblessing The Purity" there is cover art of a wolf in a shrouded christian robe, baptizing a baby in a bowl of blood. Well it is a pretty bad ass picture but would their death metal be able to capture my attention as much as their art has? Let's find out.

Now while this 4 song EP may seem short to some, you will notice that it is tightly packed with sinister and rampaging death metal to the brim. Riding the thin line between quick death metal and grindcore is a continual menace for bloodbath and I must say that grindcore becomes an annoyance after long exposure. But for those who enjoy Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, Nile, or Kataklysm, you will find this EP a bloody treat for your cannibalistic cravings.

Speedy bass pedals and chugging riffs powering this locomotive that takes breaks with melodic guitars but mostly stays on track along with growling vocals. I guess you can expect all this talent to come from somewhere, well it does, practically everyone in the band was once in other major death metal bands (Katatonia, Nightingale, Opeth,).

Plainly put, I really liked this brutal short jab of DM that Bloodbath has pummeled me with. Solid guitars, drums, vocals all around that (almost) never get old. That’s what you get when you put together the arms, legs, and head of other great bands together, you get a super band. While the purity must be unblessed, I will give this EP a slight blessing because it has kept my head banging without dealing the noxious blow of annoying death metal that curses some bands of the genre.
