If you haven't had the pleasure of experiencing Socratic yet, please run to your nearest search engine and look up the band's myspace page and get yourself caught up. Falling somewhere between the technical post-pop and gloriously simple indie crooning these scraggly boys from New Jersey, have been carving out a name for themselves with endless touring across these United States. Of course being road dogs wouldn't matter if the songs were awful. Thankfully, they're awesome.

Awesome, but hard to describe. I've heard them recommended as “Bright Eyes meets The Spill Canvas” but also as “Minus the Bear if they were formed by members of Death Cab for Cutie and Against Me! and not ex-hardcore dudes.” Both of these work just fine for me. But they don't really give you an idea of what Socratic sounds like. I'd honestly rather not classify them. Lump them in with bands who are kind of something but never fully part of a genre, like Saves The Day or The New Amsterdams. Because while I'm sure you know where this band is coming from, I doubt anyone (myself included) as any clue where the hell they're going.

But visiting this new material has shown and proved to me the growth through their career. Looking for that layback and all around feel good record of the year? Hell, pop in Socratic's new full-length from Drive-Thru in May and live a little! If you haven't gotten into Socratic yet, consider this the ground floor. You'll thank me when you can "Spread The Rumors" to your friends about how you were into them way back when!
