| With one record under their belt, the Denver band Grace Gale have been through a never ending
touring schedule and a few lineup changes to get to where they are right now. Well their sophomore
effort, "Stronger Faster Science," is almost upon us and when I heard this band was able to bring
together the new line up only through MySpace I had to laugh a little because I just thought off a
band that was formed through there. (Emmure) hah. But I'm sure these guys will be able to surprise
me, especially after everything I've heard about them.
And after giving the album a few spins, I must admit was definitely surprised. Where I was expecting
to heard the same-old same-old pop punk routine there was something more. Playing along in the
footsteps of bands like Dance Gavin Dance, and Fear Before The March Of Flames, Grace Gale has the
powerful and reckless energy that often times seems uncontrolled but you will soon see that it is
all planned out. Guitars that intertwine with melodic grace and a screamo/singing combo that
complement each other are the norm for the record. Intuitive and dramatic lyrics beckon back and
forth between the vocal duo and leave you wanting more.
This music is without a doubt infectious. You can feel free to leave the "next song" button alone
because you will never use it, as every track is memorable and just plain fun. But we also get to
see a different side for the band in the songs, "Fairweather...." and "I Hate You Tenessee" which
take a subtler but still stunning approach. So unless you just simply can't deal with lyrics that
might spout from a Panic At The Disco Record, this record is definitely for you. And if you like
PATD
lyrics, then you should reevaluate some things. But I just can't ignore the catchy riffs and
wonderful amalgamation created by Grace Gale.
So if, like I said before, you like Dance Gavin Dance (which Grace Gale sounds like a brother too)
then you will absolutely love this album. And with a funny title like "Stronger Faster Science" you
should like it just for that. But I guess the addition of great guitar work (both bass and guitar)
and the successful combo of screaming and singing, in addition to innovative instrument placement
can
count for something too. Pick this effort up Strong and please pick it up Fast.
