| I wanted to first comment on the CD art for the Polar Bear Club's lasted album.
It's freaky, and while separately a guy, a large vine, and a jar filled with glow
bugs is completely normal, the combination of the 3 is curious. But that is what we
get with this five piece group's new album "Sometimes Things Just Disappear." Let's
see what its all about shall we.
From the rosters over at Red Leader Records, Polar Bear Club has a pretty
interesting style to listen to. It is an ever changing amalgamation of classic
indie meets throaty hardcore. How does one coagulate such a sound you may as, and
do it well? Well these guys find a way. Catchy guitars coordinate with jumpy
rhythms and hardcore shouts to form what almost resembles a punk/hardcore band.
I'm really diggin' the combo and it is damn addictive to say the least.
Fans of Latterman and Hot Water Music take notice because you will really like
Polar Bear Club. While I am an avid enjoyer of the intricate melodies that soak
into your brain, the throaty singing/shouts are a bit too rough. It almost pops the
eager bubble that I get from the album's indie sections. Other than that,
"Sometimes Things Just Disappear" is pretty well rounded and these 10 tracks of
punk can latch on to your ears and have you repeating tracks all afternoon.
This is a good combo of styles and an infectious set of songs to get energized by,
but the common punk raw throat syndrome is in effect, so stay clear if you don't
like that. Otherwise, feel free to jump into this club.
