| Natives of Southern California, Another Day Late's new EP "News Said It's Raining
In
New York" sounds kind of funny. Titling an effort about a place that’s on the other
side of the country maybe weird to some, but not these guys. Being a part of B&
(pronounced "Band") Recording's roster has its perks, as many underground rock and
indie acts have emerged from it (as well as Doghouse Records). This EP was to be
something to remember I'm sure of it.
Right from the beginning, ADL starts up their catchy rock perpetual motion machine
and never stops producing worthwhile tracks. Thanks to the busy guitar work
that tilta-whirls you into a palpable dizziness and the high ranged singing of Kohl
Hegmann, we are treated to addictive songs that rival bands like Danger Radio, The
Audition, and Valencia.
Every song seems to have a similar sonic backdrop that echoes and pulses the
guitars and vocals into a dream-like state which is quite enchanting. And at 7
tracks long, this EP seems like a delicious appetizer for their upcoming
full-length album (when ever that comes out). Truthfully, ADL have combined a
fruitful sound with energetic/busy guitars and a lovely set of vocals to create an
effort that is sure to get attention.
"News Said It's Raining In New York" is impressive right from the start and
finishes just as well. It does have a bit of a feeling that the songs can't be
distinguished from one another and that they sound similar, but the sound is solid
and is catchier then some diseases out there. So if you have a hunger for alt rock
with wily guitars and delightful vocals that stir together like a tasty bowl of
chicken noodle soup then ADL is for you.
