I had first decided to review this cd because I had recently reviewed Stonerider before it and I was in one of those classy "lets drink beer and thrash our asses off" rock moods that I get into every now and again. I heard about a thirty second bit of one of Airbourne's songs on myspace and I just felt like I'd really be into it. While I can say that I was pretty okay with the album, it wasn't exactly the "grab you by the crotch" type of album that Stonerider was. All in all though, it was okay.

Airbourne essentially is a late 80's / early 90's influenced band from Australia. By listening to their jams, you can easily decipher their influences, which include the following: Motley Crue, AC/DC, Poison, and the likes. But it's not a new and improved version of, just sort of a rehashed version of. The riffs sound old and recycled and the production sounds straight out of the 80's. Don't get me wrong, I love this shit. For lack of a better term, let's just call it butt rock. They've got the hair, tight pants, and songs to fit right in with those bands. However, let's face the facts, it's not the 80's anymore. If you want to play this style of music, you need to do something to update it, modify the sound slightly, get a better production quality, do something that doesn't make me feel like you're going to go out and open for Winger. If you're looking to relive your childhood, Airbourne can help you out there. You can expect your basic plain jane rhythm guitar lines with solo highlights over it, drum beats that only serve to match the guitars (don't expect a lot of fills) and vocals that are pretty self explanatory when you're discussing this style of music. The lyrics are pretty fantastic however. They may be generic, but you never get tired of hearing about cheap beer, fast cars, and rock and roll.

Airbourne has some good jams, but I felt like I've heard the album already. There wasn't anything fresh or exciting about it. As I told my brother when he asked me about them, "they're good, but they don't grab you". Retool your sound a bit and come back with a new album.
