This record isn’t going to be for everyone. Right away I can tell a lot of people will be put off due to their slow'ish songs, and the lengthy songs themselves. Hopefully some of you can put those elements behind you and actually give this an honest and fair assessment, even if it doesn’t click the first time.

As Tall As Lions, has always been that band when you wanted to relax, all you would need to do is turn on their album to relax and chilll. Their new self titled album, brings that same flavor into play. With the ridiculously catchy toe-tapping melody found on “Ghosts of york” and the diluted, vocal-heavy call to action of “Mariah,” it’s apparent that As Tall As Lions have found their voice, and it’s somewhere between enthusiastic slow-rock to soothing popish-indie.

Even though we aren’t looking at an album that will change the way rock and roll will be forever viewed, or better yet, written—these guys can confidently perform using an intricate yet simple sound the bends in and out through the indie pop-rock scene. As tall as lions self titled album, is an album that I can’t help but relate it to a time machine, taking me back to the days where fun pop-punk was the only thing escaping from the dark insides of my headphones. I just wish this band expanded their horizon and formula a bit more instead of making an album that sounds strikingly similar to their influences. Needless to say, this is an album not without some faults, but for those people who want nothing else to do but drive around in the spring sun blasting a solid and catchy CD should definitely check this one out.

Creativity has new boundaries. Never have I heard the aesthetic of sound meet the aesthetic of beauty. Astal's self titled is vulnerable yet strong, exciting yet serious. This sound bends genres and yet, cannot be contained by one. As tall as lions are a new American cult classic. This is just the beginning. One of the standout tracks, “love love love (love love)” , has so much to offer that I find myself listening to this track over and over and more so than any of the others. You might as well say it’s my favorite on the album. "Stab City" may be the most recognizable and harmonic track on the entre album. The vocal composition is layered with a single male voice and underlayed with a humming group chorus. The song relies on slowly strummed guitarwork and heavenly drumming that frame the entire track. Among other songs, "Mariah", displays an instrumental that begins as a simple Chimes, soon adorned with oh so soft guitar stroke, then returns to a more uptempo beat on drums. The album actually flows very nicely, I was pretty shocked when I listened to the full thing.

This album is by no means perfect, yet, it is by no means a bad album. I think alot of As Tall As Lions fan, will find themselves listening to this album over and over again, just because it is extremely catchy. This album will not go un-reconigzed. It will draw fans from all over the place.
