8.5 (out of 10)

Here we are once again, faced with another album cover that ceases to amaze me. I don't know if its the psychedelic visualizations or the extreme oddness of the green and purple two headed zebra that seems so inviting. Out with the old and in with the new would be an adequate statement to be made about Godsmack versus Another Animal due to the massive "whoop your ass" self titled brought to you by AA.

Welcome to track one, it's titled "Find a Way" and contains what sounds like African tribal music for an intro and brings the lead off track to a whole other level. From here, I say we go straight down the line through the rest of the tracks because chronological order is favored by most. "Distant Signs" and "Broken Again" each have their own special tempo which separates them from each other. The first being a relatively hard track against a slow walk in the park tempo from "Broken Again." As of tracks 4 and 5 ("Before the Fall" and "Amends") I would have to say "welcome to rock." No other word comes close enough to describe these songs except for pure rock.

Woohoo ya'll! It's time for an interlude that is nether less that surprising yet intriguing. Far from Another Animals style don't be quick to judge because it's almost a perfect fit in the oddest way. "Left Behind" is another track that falls in perfectly with "Broken Again" just as "Blind" and "The Beast Within" rocks out for "Before the Fall." I also thank Another Animal for the amazing bass introduction on "The Thin Line." It's something I don't hear often enough but am delighted to have heard afterwards. "Black Coffee Blues" is pretty self explanatory. It has a bluesy touch but doesn't fall to far from the tree. As we approach the last track "Fade Away," Another Animal leaves us with a peaceful farewell.

One thing I say, thank you jesus for an original alternative album.
