| Dreary days in Seattle have always given the inspiration to angst ridden artists. Victory Records’ Aiden is no expectation. But instead of reaching for their fathers flannel, Aiden grabbed their sister’s makeup.
On their debut first EP, Nightmare Anatomy, the band seems to have giving a lesson in horror/ Goth rock 101, taking bits and peaces of bands like AFI and My Chemical Romance and throwing it all in on record and seeing what comes out.
It is obvious Aiden’s newest album “Conviction” the band has been inspired by bigger arena bands they have toured with in the past year such as Linkin Park, HIM, Slayer and 30 Seconds to Mars. This gives the band a much fuller sound, combined with less emo-core and almost a big 80s feel.
But is the record more sincere?
Unfortunately it is not. Although Aiden still shows potential in their music and some of their lyrics they still fallback on paint by numbers rock. The record will do well with fans of the genre but eventually with will want some more substance.
Focus more on the music rather than your haunting look.
