| With As Cities Burn's "Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest" being
one of the most memorable Solidstate releases for 2005, I can't
help but admit I was a little disappointed when the group removed
the majority of their raspy screams from their song structures.
While the vocals of As Cities Burn have entirely gone towards a
Silverstein/Emery style, I must admit; instrumentally the album
entirely accels beyond the standard set by their 2005 release.
This time around, the group impliments tones of catchy melodies
ala Saosin or Scary Kids Scaring Kids. Many will be let down once
they find out the days of "Love Jealous One, Love" are officially
over. But I think if you toss their previous sound aside for a
moment, I think many rock fans will appreciate this album. Granted
they're surely losing many of the metal/hardcore fans that had
previously considered ACB a soft-spot for them.
With "Come Now Sleep." I've got a few mixed emotions. I miss the
sounds that came bellowing out of their 2005 release, but I do
believe this album much harder to pigeon-hole than earlier work.
Listeners can draw influence from Saosin, Emery, Silverstein and
Scary Kids Scaring Kids, right down to Mewithoutyou and even Brand
New. So if you're open to an ACB that's gone on a completely opposite
tangent, then give this album a try. You probably won't be too happy
if the raspy screams were a keypoint factoring into your favorability
of this group.
