Have you ever wanted a break from unrelentlessly cruciating death metal? Than don't check out Aeon's "Rise to Dominate." This album is likely to chew faint of heart fans up and spit them out much like a Cannibal Corpse album is known for. Their sound represents the old-school death metal approach meeting up with the pinch heavy techniques of death metal today recorded and produced so clearly that each and every brutal lick can be heard exceptionally well.

"Rise to Dominate" is one of those album's that'll really tell you how much you're into true death metal. Melody by means of catchy harmonies isn't factored into such an album, making "Rise to Dominate" an intimidating feat for Melodeath fans to stomache. Instead Aeon return with their Metalblade debut with a sound that'd fit in quite well with the likes of Vital Remains, Deicide (older), Cannibal Corpse, Amon Amarth and bands of that nature. Aeon are in your face with their satanic approach by means of jaw-dropping lyrical structures such as "I live my life the way I want / I am a living Sin." But when it comes down to the soloing heard upon this album, Aeon give acts like Psyopus and Behold... The Arctopus a run for their money, as heard in tracks like "Living Sin," "Hate Them," "You Pray to Nothing" and nearly every track on the album.

When it comes down to the riffing and screams heard on Aeon's "Rise to Dominate," some may grow bored of the low-pitched chugging and trilling, but the pinch harmonics here and there brighten up the album and the soloing itself makes the album what it is. At times Aeon rear a face that seems much like Cannibal Corpse, but as the album wears on song structures mold more into the way of Vital Remains by means of intense build-ups to outrageous carpel tunnel inducing solos. You think you're tough enough for this kind of metal? Then pay up and give this bedevilled coaster a ride.
