8.5 (out of 10)

You know, I'm not always the most up-to-date on what's "cr00sh" in the hardcore scene, but I'd have to be a moron not to have heard about 108. Being on Deathwish Inc. alone, this band was bound to send a tidal wave of crowd punching tough guys out to stomp the living daylights out of trend-following sissy's everywhere. But honestly after hearing what "A New Beat From a Dead Heart" had to offer, I was sucked in once more by the Deathwish brand of clever and quite inventive hardcore tunes heard on this edition of 108.

The blue-prints have litterally been beaten out of the door on this one. No longer can I try to convince myself that 108 is just another band following the old punk/hardcore trend to a "T". Instead 108's sleeves have been tagged up with a smoothly flowing mixture of Botch and Converge to top off the rough undertones of Modern Life is War in a large crew on crew fight to the death battle with Dead Hearts.

Is 108 the most inventive act out to date? Of course not. But 108 find themselves treading quite close to the line as one of the most exciting Hardcore acts around today. So for those of you that follow Deathwish quite closely, "A New Beat From A Dead Heart" is not an album you should omit from your hardcore collection. This band excites the hell out of me and is bound to suck you in to it's dirty yet metallic hardcore interior as well.
