| After the many underground successes of Anterrabae through their album "Shakedown Tonight" and the many appearances on Triple Crown Records samplers and compilations, they have amassed quite a
large cult following and with a hardcore sound that rivals Converge and Atreyu, they have what it
takes to bring the house down and do it on their own terms. So much is to be expected of this
album and many are watching to see how good they have become over the years.
The CD revs into our ears with a thick drum/bass serenade and squealing guitars in "Pink & Tender." Chants fill the corridors and the halls with anthems and words of wisdom as the
adrenaline pumps at every bass petal and riff filled with emotion and strife. The next song "Stay
Moist" which is creepily suggestive and funny to ponder about. The howls that fill the song scrap
and drill the frame that holds it together as the technical guitars go to work and fill in the
void left. More chants slam in and trigger a riot moment. Waves of guitar crash and subside and
explode on the shore. "It Takes More Then Metal To Move A Bull" unleashes uncontrollable riffs that bully the senses and manage to put bruises on your soul. Throaty vocals hold the reigns and guide this song in a good direction. Creepy carnival sounds litter in and set a mood that’s hard to beat with intriguing guitars. A bass line guides and tricky guitar session down a dark and unsure hall way in "An Albatross Around The Neck." Serenades sing to the masses in a rather angelic cull that finds its way into the manic drudging guitars and slight organ backup. The slight touches of ambient women's voices is an added bonus to the mood and feel of it. "The Filthy Habits Of Ex-Lovers" is a well suited title for this melodic, fast paced grunge fest. Production on the drums are pronounced and the guitars are translucent.
Storms rage of the coast of this magnificent song. The beach's perfectly shaped sand glows in the moonlight and lead into another soft sector of the CD. "Investigating The Phantom Signal" is a light ambient visit in the shadows and echoes of time. An instrumental paints the canvas with its delicate brush and forms an illusion of magical equality of the hard and soft that governs their sound. A traveling guitar verse spins its coils and holds tight for "Viper." So much pent up gets released in this slow yet urgent song. Anthems litter this song and add the call and response. The guitars play off each other and compliment on each row of music played. In the time it took me to read the title i had gotten to "Unscrewed her leg" and the music changed right as I saw those three words. It was perfectly in tune and creepy to say the least. "I Lifted Her Dress Over Her Head And Unscrewed Her Leg" plowed in and made itself at home. The riffs beckon me too sing along and after wanting to listen to this song over and over I’m sure ill know all the words soon. The harmonica at the end just added to the mood of amazing weirdness this album dishes out.
Guitars dance around and blaze trails with their resonating vibrations, it's time to make
way for "Shit Happens When You Party Naked." Shouts and Screeches burn a torch for the rest of the sound to follow and double helix around. Sounds haven't been heard so sweet since the years of
Butterfly Kisses and Atreyu. Bass petals blast in mesmerizing fashion and pound the certainty of
this record into the ages. Heavenly solos sprout out and streak across the sky. Anthems unearth
their emotion in continues chants and dissipate into the next song. I guess shit really Does happen when you party naked. Zoning into "A Shovel For Arch Stanton." A much louder and scrapping sound appears from songs before. This song feels like standing in a desert tornado as sand penetrates every part of you. A gentle flamboyant bass gears up for the beginning of "My Wrists Are Rivers, My Fingers Are Words" So aptly named as it feels as if you are traveling down a white water river and scraping the rocks on the river bed with every guitar riff. So brutal yet so lovely. The album finalize with the heavy and ecstatic guitar geometry in "The Hands Of Christ Are Beautiful Hands" Such intriguing lyrics and melodies as timid epic music glides in between the piano and effects that accents the song beautifully. A passion filled build and climax ends the song, and the cd, in true quality with explosive shouts and grinding riffs. A true way to end.
This adventure was one of interesting exploration and amazing discoveries. Memories came
flooding back as i was brought back to the sound of Converge and Atreyu. Although similar, there
are so many differences between them. Anterrabae has launched themselves from the lower echelon
into the upper choir of hardcore bands. Many have tried and failed but this story is not one of
them. They seem to have put on a show for the end of the world, going all out and showing
everything because there is no need to hide. And Our Heart Beat In Our Fingertips, Without Reason
has opened an ancient woven together story book that has been lying in wait for the world to be
ready for it, and that time is now.
