| Straight from the frilly laced 1800's the independently produced singer-songwriter, Hannah Fury,
takes her platinum blonde hair and writes heart wrenching songs that are intended to make sure you
feel every inch of her emotion. Heavily influenced by the Gregory Maguire's novel Wicked, Hannah
has taken her talent in pianos, keyboards, and overall freakiness that she has been doing for the
last
9 years and has put together her new album "Through The Gash." Although very dramatic and
theatrical, lets hope I can relate to this haunting parade she has created.
Well let's just say that I was in for a surprise before I started listening that I wasn't prepared
for. In what I can only describe as Cemetery Dream music, invaded my mind with its spooky splendor
that seemed weird yet interesting. This puzzle of an album has so many different pieces that bring
its
macabre tone to light (or darkness). Whether it be the chilling vocals that make your spine
tingle, or the columns of organ/piano that fill your ears, it's all pretty whimsical with a
twisted and subtle personality.
Although most of the songs keep a similar motif, "Don't Be Scared" was a pretty cool because it
took on the soul of a gothic trance song with out the techno beats (Making it not trance at all I
guess, oh well). Another funny side is that the title of the song is ironic for the album as this
music will scare the crap out of you. The spiral looping of chimes and bells of "Carousel" really
brought the sound to life. All of the songs really kept the same feel and demeanor as they glided
across this soft plain of sound that Hannah has made.
So basically I believe this girl is a ghost. All of her orchestra abilities and haunting melody
make this "Cemetery music" come to life (back to life maybe?) Much like sirens that beckon sailors
to their death, "Through The Gash" invites us through soft eerie vocals and echoed pianos, not to
our deaths but rather to a set of songs that I would play during my funeral. There is a weird
calling to me from this music that I can't explain. I wouldn't listen to this all the time but it
is a guilty pleasure. If you like ghoulish serenades that hound you from the grave then pick this
up, other wise you might be a little shy at this scary set of tracks. Boo!
