| After Boxcar Racer's debut it found a comfortable shadow in the canyons of Blink 182's fan hearts, we were all wondering if this was the beginning of a downward slope for the talented boys weve all been accostumed to love. Although, for first time fans, recent fans and long-time fans, Angels And Airwaves pays homage to their unordinary structure, sound and lyrics. Angels And Airwaves Tom DeLonge, Ryan Sinn, David Kennedy Atom Willard undoubtedly formed a dedicated following on the overwhelmingly recognizable sound theyve helped create over the past few years. (mainly Tom)
A promise AVA can keep is that they can draw in fans that enjoy both pop and indie genres alike. True fans of Blink not so true fans of Blink will be attracted to the pleasant haul of Tom DeLonge's voice and indie fans will stick around for the ever-changing riffs from song to song. The percussions were not something I expected from AVA, but the drumming/effects deliver a subtle energy that keeps each song interesting. They're perfect at their craftsmanship of flowing songs into eachother perfectly. Start The Machine is by far the worst song on the album, with a droning intro the leads to a mock-up chorus reminiscent sounds make it quite boring but this is all I can really seem to gripe about. However, my favorite track, A Little's Enough is a gentle composition that doesnt rely on powerful hooks or catchy riffs yet is the song that sticks out the most on all of We Don't Need To Whisper, the ambient sounds match Tom's voice quite accurately which corresponds to the lyrical format perfectly as well. As far as lyrics went on the album, no song stuck with me most than The Adventure, I mean who doesn't have "I can't live, I can't breathe, unless you do this with me" humming in their head all day long.
Whether it sounds corny or not, the lyrics that help you celebrate the better times of now or back then type of moments are the albums that eventually stick with us forever. That is what We Don't Need To Whisper did for me. I don't want to ruin this CD for anyone because it deserves your opinion and not mine but i'll be completely honest this is one of my favorite CD's of 2006. Other tracks worth your time include Do It For Me Now, a psychedelic ballad that pleads sanity and The Gift, a unrealistic hope of escape that elongates just about every instrument in the five-minute song.
The mood of Angels And Airwaves debut successfully changes moods through the album four different times.
Noted as an observation, this method is effective because it allows for their range of song styles to be performed. The ineffective side to it is that the album suffers as a whole and doesnt strengthen the 10 songs together. Separately, each song shows the bands diversity, although I fear this method may lose some of their better songs by doing this. But this is without a doubt an amazing piece of artwork Tom has yet again created trust me all the hype is well achieved. AVA does nothing but prove that point with We Don't Need To Whisper.
Even though we arent looking at an album that will change the way rock and roll will be forever viewed, or better yet, written these west coast natives can confidently perform using an intricate yet simple sound that bends in and out through the indie pop-rock scene. With any luck, Geffen can keep them around to master their skills on a follow-up album. Go do me and yourself a huge favor go grab this when it hits stores if you're a big Blink fan this is your album if you're not a big Blink fan it's still for you, that's what Angels And Airwaves have done with this album they haven't let it to a single crowd of people, this CD can suit anyone well so don't be a fool go grab this when it drops.
