| A Life Once Losts' "Hunter" was their very first Ferret Records release, and
although it wasn't their first ever, the album "Hunter" was the album that really
kicked things off for ALOL. Mixed with a raw american metal sound, with clever
pinch harmonics and melodic solos that could bring listeners to their knees. But
before this resilient album, A Life Once Lost had "A Great Artist" of which they
released with Deathwish Inc. Not only a very respectable label, but this label has
seen many other talents in it's time such as the great Converge.
Because of limited pressings of "A Great Artist" the album (until now) was a nearly
impossible find. For this reason, Ferret has decided to grace listeners with a second
look into the paste of one of today's most influencial bands around. To some of you
core fans of this band, the Reissue has already sold itself to you. But for those of
you that aren't quite convinced yet, take a look deeper into the early days of ALOL.
With the same general sound as "Hunter," A Life Once Lost definately aren't showing
that their talent came overnight. In fact the hard-work that you hear on their most
recent recording "Hunter" is a build up of what their 2003 release had started. Although
this album shows a little less solo-like riffs, the catchy melodies, the ear shattering
pinch harmonics, and the overall abrasiveness in recent efforts is still perfectly
displayed. If you're not familiar with this album at all, then tracks such as "Cavil,"
"The Change Came Suddenly," "Nevermore Will I Have an Understanding," "Pious," and
"Overwhelming" might be tracks you should direct your attention immediately to. These
tracks alone show the best of A Life Once Lost around the year of 2003.
Although more hardcore based in this record, I'm sure unknowing listeners will still be
able to find themselves right at home with this album. Naturally this album isn't as
good as "Hunter" but growth is more than expected. But in listening to "A Great Artist"
you will hear the way A Life Once Lost used to sound and you'll be able to compair the
change between albums to get an idea of what to expect for future releases by the band.
Although this Reissue doesn't contain any new bonus tracks or special features, I still
think it's a worthy reissue due to the fact that it was out of press for roughly 2 years.
Go out and buy this album on October 31st and enjoy this addition to your collection.
