| After the innitial release of one of Death Metal's most innovative releases
11 years ago, At the Gates and Earache records offers listeners with a reissue
to re-introduce listeners to "Slaughter of the Soul" and to remind them where
all of today's metal is coming from. With bands such as The Black Dahlia Murder
gathering much of the fame for this sound of death metal, Earache has decided to
really show metal listeners who the real creator of this tight metallic sound is
and that they've done well. This reissue comes complete with the original 11 songs
from the album as well as 6 bonus tracks and a special collectors DVD.
If the name At the Gates hardly rings a bell, then it's safe to say you're missing
out on some of the most abrasive metal compositions up to date. With a sound that
fits perfectly in the uprising metal scene today, one would be surprised to learn
that somebody else has been doing this over a decade before many of today's larger
metal acts. With "Slaugher of the Soul's" perfect blend of classical metal and a
boundary compromising new sound it's not a surprise that it's been one of the leading
influences in the younger generation of composers today. The perfect up to date
sounding recording mixed with flawless musicianship and an overall production that
rivals even some of today's best, help make this album out to be a charm.
In today's metal scene it's safe to say that At the Gates have become the Metallica,
Guns and Roses or even ACDC of Death Metal. Each of the listed bands have changed
the way metal and rock are done today and At the Gates has perfectly fit well up
into those ranks with death metal and thrash. Previous fans of At the Gates should
pick up this album as well as the Limited Edition Picture Disc Vinyl LP because not
only do these serve as really nice collectors items, but the bonus tracks add a little
extra fun to the disc, with covers of bands such as Slaughterlord, Slayer, and No
Security as well as 2 older demos, a previously unreleased track and a Bonus DVD that
includes 35 Minutes of interviews reguarding some of the band's techniques used to
make the album and their music video for the album's opening track "Blinded by Fear".
If you're quite new to the extreme metal/death metal scene and havn't even heard this
band, You should definately pick this up and give it multiple listens because the best
way to understand a band's material is by digging up their roots And any modern day
death metal act that says they havn't been influenced in the slightest way by At the
Gates or In Flames would be liars. So go to your nearest record store and pick up this
classic album and I promise you won't regret it.
