Upon listening to Arise and Ruin's Debut album "The Fear Of", it was a major surprise to me when i had found out the band was canadian. I thought to myself how can this band be canadian? With musical influences such as Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, and Unearth (all of which are american), surely there must have been a mistake. It turns out there was no mistake at all, Arise and Ruin are just making a new name for Canadian metal.

With the Merciless combination of Unpolished American Metal, mosh- your-life-away breakdowns and hostile Eureopean thrash, this band is quickly becoming the face of metal to come. In a matter of months this band has already shared the stage with such acts as Misery Index, Despised Icon, Beneath the Massacre, A Perfect Murder, and Underoath to name a few. After a few months of touring the band went in and recorded "The Fear of" with producer Ken Susi (Unearth).

In my opinion the quality and production of this album is nearly flawless and lyrically the singer seems to fade away from the all too common emotionally inspired compositions and gears his thoughts towards staying positive in life's daily endeavors.

The bonus footage on the disk only proves how brutal this band remains to be live. The stage presence shown in the footage shows you just how one of canada's newest major acts not only brings incredible music to the table, but also brings an amazing live show as well. Over all i think this is a pretty decent cd especially for a debut album. It brings you a taste of what this band is made of while leaving enough room for improvement in the future.
