Have you ever heard the term “too much of a good thing”? It’s not just something that nuns and suburban housewives say. NSDWhoa is, for all intents and purposes, too much of a good thing. Their sound range covers so many different styles, psychedelic indie rock, the sounds of a band like Fear Before the March of Flames, some Bjork, and more. An album that doesn’t have a specific style or sound doesn’t leave you with anything to hold on to, and that’s the problem with NSDWhoa.

Day of Dog/Year of Gnar would benefit by sticking to one style or at least a range of styles, leave out the indie rock or leave out the screaming, does it have to be all or nothing? If in fact it does, well, NSDWhoa presents it to the listener in a pretty little package. What they do the do well enough indeed. They’re a good psych rock band, they’re a good off the wall metal band. This Ohio based group just needs some Ritalin. Through the course of one song, they take on several faces, like some schizophrenic mental ward patient, the songs don’t flow, just sort of clumsily unravel.

Unlike the organized chaos of Dillinger Escape Plan, this record was just pretty uninspiring and well… boring.
