If you think Rosematter's new self-titled album has a similar ring to it then you would be right. For if you were a friend of their 2007 record "Shooter's Gonna Choke" then you will be happy to know that they have changed the titled to the album and given us a new cover, but that's about it. That's right the tracks are all the same except the album is coming out through Torque Records and while I don't have a problem with reissues, at least you get bonus tracks with those. But seeing as I hadn't heard their last album, this is will be my first ride either way. Plus I'm a sucker for female lead bands. ;)

Taking a look at the back of their self-titled CD I couldn't help but laugh because not only are there 6 people in the band but 3 of them look suspiciously flamboyant and their leading lady looks like my friend’s mother. But funny observations aside, I was surprised how easily their music was able to get me up and start dancing (not really but it's still catchy). Taking shape as a more mature sounding Paramore, Rosematter has all the complementary roots that jumpy pop rock needs to sound exciting and get popular.

With the ability that comes with their 3 guitarists, Rosematter is able to come up with a slew of catchy melodies and intricate layers of riffs. A fact that is hard to believe in a genre that lives on simple guitar work. Katie also has an amazing voice that can stand tall among the popular female vocalists in the game (as well as the high pitched men hah).

So while some people with pass this over because the mainstream already has similar things available to fill your pop punk void and while some of you may own this CD under another name, "Rosematter" is something to check out because it has all the elements of an album that is ready to explode on MTV and become popular. Yea we have Paramore and yea we have The Morning Of, but another beautifully fronted female group with loads of guitars and emotion isn't something to scoff at. It's something to enjoy for a while, or give to your girlfriend.
