How was the recording of "Vices" and how long did it take to write and record?
>We had a great time in the studio recording Vices. We spent a little over a month recording the record. Before that we got together to write the record for weeks at a time during the latter portion of 2005.
Have you been able to play new songs on tour?
>Yeah, were playing quite a few new songs on tour. We have som much more fun playing these new songs, and have been excited to let kids hear some of our new stuff.
Did You expect to become so popular from "New Medicines"?
>Not really, we knew we had something good. But we defiantly new we had created something that exceeded all of our expectations and our previous record(four wall blackmail). But you can never really determine the success of a record until its on the shelves.
Where did the name Dead Poetic come from.
>It was an old song title(one of our songs) that we decided to make the band name.
The movie dead poets society had nothing to do with us coming up with the band name.
But it definitely helped give it a ring
Any special reason why "Vices" is coming out Halloween? Boo?
>Easy date to remember. And it gave us time to promote the album from the time we recorded it in the studio to the time we could actually probably tour for the release
What is your favorite song to play live?
>Narcotic, the first new single off of VICES
How has your music changed from your last Cd?
>Our music has gone through quite a transformation from New Medicines. There are still the strong melodic sensibilities that New Medicines had, but there is more of a hard rock edge this time around. Were drawing from influences of hard rock / nineties alternative bands that made us love rock and roll. In our opinion, this record blows our previous efforts away.
How did you guys start?
>We started in 1997 as four guys that wanted to emulate the bands we were currently obsessing over. Bands like Nirvana, Green Day, and Weezer were all we listened to at the time. When we began, we didnt have much of a goal in sight. Things kind of evolved into something that could possibly become a career.
What are some of the Influences of this new Cd and of Dead Poetic in general.
>Our influences include Stone Temple Pilots, Helmet, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Tool, Alkaline Trio, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Handsome, Bush, A Perfect Circle, and Frazzles The Squirrel.
Do you have any funny tales from recent tours?
>We dont have any recent tours, nor do we have any tails.
Anything you guys cant live without on tour?
>Food, water, oxygen, gasoline, and iPods.
How well is Tooth & Nail treating you guys?
>I have to say great. No, seriously, I HAVE to say theyre treating us great.
Who was the producer for "Vices" and how well were you satisfied with his work on it?
>Aaron Sprinkle produced the new album. Chino Moreno also co-produced a couple tracks on the record. We are beyond satified with how the record turned out. We are all extremely proud of it, and it may be one of the best sounding albums weve ever heard.
That wraps it up, Thank you for the interview and good luck with the new album "Vices."
