Pat & Garrett (Drums & Bass)

The Maine - Interview

Can we start off by telling us your names and what you guys do in the band?

>(Pat) I am Pat and I play drums.
(Garrett) I am Garrett and I play bass.

We really enjoyed your latest EP "The Way We Talk." How did the writing and recording process go for it?

>(Pat) The recording process for the EP was done really fast we recorded it in like 5 days. It was really fun to record!
(Garrett) A couple of the songs we had for awhile, and the two newer ones were the first couple songs we had for our record but we thought they fit better on the EP.

What are some of the bands influences musically and lyrically?

>(Garrett) I know John really likes Lil Wayne and Justin Timberlake haha, we get a lot of an influence from Hip Hop. But other than that we like WeatherBox, Cassino, Third Eye Blind, Sigur Ros stuff like that.

What lead you guys to Fearless Records?

>(Pat) I think what really led us to Fearless is that we really felt comfortable with them from the begging and we they always said that as long as we are working hard they will do the same. We felt that with Fearless we were going to have control over our ideas so we could do all the things we wanted!!! We couldn’t be happier with the choice we made!

Is there any news on a full length in 2008?

>(Pat) Ya definitely, we go into the studio in February with producer Matt Squire(Panic! at the Disco, Northstar) to record our debut full length and we hope to have it out summer 2008!! Garrett: We are really excited about the new songs they are coming out really awesome. We are hoping to take the sound to a whole new level with the full length.

We've heard your Punk Goes Crunk version of Akon's "I Wanna Fuck You" and we absolutely love it. How did you guys get set up with the Immortal project at the time?

>(Pat) Our manager knew someone at immortal who was originally in charge of the project and he asked us if we wanted to cover a song for the CD!!

What kind of music scene is out there in Phoenix AZ?

>(Pat) There is a huge screamo scene in AZ. I think it is changing a bit andother types of bands are starting to pop up here and there.
(Garrett) Pat and me used to be in a local screamo band together!!

We saw that two members of the band were asked to graduate high school early so the band could Tour. What was it like for them to do that?

>(Pat) It was me and Garrett that graduated early. It was really hard at time I was taking extra classes online along with regular classes at school.
(Garrett) It was really easy for me; I only had 5 classes so it was nice.

What songs do you guys love to play live?

>(Pat) I really like to play count em one, two, three live!
(Garrett) "The way we talk" is a really fun song to play live.

Where is your most favorite venue that you have played at so far?

>(Pat)I would say that as a band our favorite venue is Trackside teen center in Wilton Connecticut. The people that work there are really awesome and it is one big family every time we play there! (Garrett) They have video games there and amazing catering every time!!!

What is something that you guys can't live with out while on the road?

>(Pat) I couldn’t live without my sidekick!
(Garrett) I would die without my iPod the drives would be very boring!!!

Thanks for answering some of our questions. Is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Skylinepress.net?
