Can you please start off by telling everyone your name and what
you play/do in the band?
>I'm Mark Hendrix, and I sing and play guitar.
Tell us some of the wheelings and dealings with your latest effort
"Another Way Home." How was the writing and recording process?
>The writing process for this record took place over a period of 2
years, as we included a couple of older songs, but the main portion of
our songs were written at the beginning of this year. Recording was
great, because we've always made sure to do our homework and have
everything completely in place before we go into the studio. We had a
chance to do a lot of pre-production with a friend back home, so by
the time we went in to record "Another Way Home," we were very
familiar with everything.
We saw that you took your name from a passage in 2 Corinthians
3:14, does the bible play a huge role in your music and passion for
your music?
>Definitely! We are a Christian band, and we feel like it's important
to represent Christian music in a new light: we're not trying to force
anything on anyone, but this is what we are, and if anyone wants to
talk about it, we're more than willing to talk! Also, we're out to
prove that Christian-oriented media doesn't need to be second-rate.
Hopefully we're doing alright on that part..
What drove you four to Facedown Records? Is their vision for you
guys on track with what you want for the band?
>When we formed in January 2005, we set out to do something with this
band, and although we had sent out some press kits, we were way more
interested in touring and playing shows, putting ourselves out there,
rather than constantly sending out kits trying to get signed. I had
always been a fan of Facedown bands like Alove for Enemies and
Symphony in Peril, and in late 2006 we played with War of Ages. I
immediately felt like I'd made great friends, so when Facedown head
honcho Jason Dunn contacted us, I had an idea that Facedown was the
label for us.
They've done nothing but support us all the way, and we couldn't ask
for a better situation to be in! The entire Facedown Family works as a
team to see everyone become successful, and I've made some of the best
friends I've ever had in the past year.
What are some of your influences both musically and lyrically?
>My influences musically include a ton of classic and southern rock
greats like Molly Hatchet and Dire Straits, mixed in with anything
with hooks--everything from pop music to country and all kinds of
alt-rock.
We see that you guys are touring like crazy. What venue are you
guys waiting to play the most?
>We love touring! I'm so pumped to be heading back out soon with our
new members--we recently went through a member change and we've had a
great time at the weekend shows we've played in anticipation for our
upcoming tour.
We've played some awesome venues before, but I'm really looking
forward to the home shows. We love hanging out with our friends and
now that we're on tour a lot, we don't get much of a chance to see our
friends. We're making friends all over on tour though, so hopefully
before too long, everywhere will be a home show!
What song is your favorite from the album. Also what song do you
guys love to play live?
>My personal favorite on our album is the title track, Another Way
Home. It's a new direction for us, and it was a huge challenge to rise
up to on the vocal parts. I love playing the first song from our new
CD, The Crux, live. It's got a ton of energy in it, and it usually
gets people pumped and head-bangin'!
What is something you guys can't live without on the road?
>Definitely Brawny paper towels. Everyone knows the Brawny Man(R) is
strong, and so is the entire family of Brawny paper products. Brawny
paper towels have scrubbing circles for strength against your tough
messes. And Brawny paper napkins with tight-weave construction are
Brawny-strong, yet soft on your skin. Brawny paper towels and napkins
are available in attractive color prints, as well as white.
Where is your favorite place to stop and get some grub when you're touring?
>Usually someone's house, because the food is free. I like free food.
If you're reading this, send me some food. Or let me stay at your
house and feed me some food. We like fruit!
What is the craziest thing a fan has done for you?
>One time, a fan from Brunswick, GA, showed up at a show of ours in
Davenport, IA. She brought us all t-shirts that she'd made that were
customized especially for us! And these weren't just glitter-paint or
airbrushed, she'd actually gotten them screen-printed! It was totally
cool until my parents had to change their phone number.
Thanks for taking time out to answer our questions. Is there
anything you would like to ask the readers of Skylinepress.net?
>Have you bought our brand new CD out now on Facedown Records? It's
called Another Way Home! You can pick it up in stores everywhere! Hey,
seeya at our tour shows, right?
