Mayday Parade (Band)

Mayday Parade - Interview

It seems like your guys's popularity level keeps jumping, what are your thoughts on that thus far?

>We are just really excited about all of it. Everyone is just ready to tour and see what we can do with a bigger fan base all over the country. It's all been really fast, the band hasn't even been around for a year yet, and we are blessed to have so much so soon.

You guys have a new cd coming out here pretty soon, how do you feel the the whole process went?

>The album was recorded pretty smoothe I think. We spent alot of time making sure that the songs were ready for it before we ever went in to the studio to finish it. We had to record really early the first time. That's when we recorded When I get Home Your so Dead, and Three Cheers for Five Years. We released those within the first month that we were a band, in hopes that we could get some sort of hype before we started playing out.

Where do you guys see yourself in a year?

>Touring. Hopefully finishing the full length and working really hard to make sure people like it, and know about it. Maybe on a lable who believes in us, and wants to push us as hard if not harder than we push ourselves. It would be really nice to be able to have someone backing the band and give us room to concentrate on writing instead of everything else.

So, how long have you guys been a band, and known eachother?

>We have only been a band for about nine months. Officialy anyway. But we have all knowneach other forever. The local scene here is really close and it's easy tobe friends with a lot of the other bands. We were in two seperate bands. Brooks, Cab, and Derek were in one band, and Jake, Alex, and myself were in another. We all played together a lot, hung out and all that, but never really thought about being in the same band until Derek said something. I think looking back it was a good idea.

Whats the next big step you guys will be taking?

>We start touring this month. Going out for two months just to sell the EP, trying to get some hype worked up and tour until we can't anymore. Kind of a big step. Hahaha.

What's your favorite city to play shows at?

>By far we love home. Tallahassee Florida. The venues here all take such good care of us, and the fans here are amazing. It's not uncommon to come out to a show and see 2 or 300 of your friends packed into some off beat bar here in town. The bandsare all awesome, and I don't think there is a scene anywhere else in America where there are more amazing bands. Save it for Sunrise, For those who Remember, the list goes on and on. So many good people and bands I don't think anyone will ever beat Tallahassee.

As a band, what are some of your influences?

>I could state the obvious like Fall Out Boy, and NFG. But I know that I myself take a lot more from older bands like Crosby and Nash, Journey, and even some Bon Jovi. But then we also take a lot from a lot of indie bands like Bright Eyes, Minus the Bear, and Shiny Toy Guns. Between those and Dashboard, Straylight Run.....the list goes on and on.

What are some of your guys's favorite songs to play?

>Ours? We all have or favorite. I know Alex like "Your song" a lot, mine is " The last something that meant anything." But all of us really like the feeling that comes out of "When I get home", and " One Man Drinking Games."

Any favorite moments on tour, or as a band in general?

>There was a time when we were on tour with Further Seems Forever, and we had a lable come out to watch in south Florida. The watched and took us out to dinner, and we talked for a while about where the band was going and things like that. That was my favorite because that was the moment when I realized that I would be with this band forever, or at least as long as they can stand me.
