When did you guys get here?
>(Travis) We left at around noon yesterday and drove 17 ½ hours. We actually had a day off when we were there so we went to the beach and showed Just Surrender the home town.
So, what about this album. What do you guys think?
>(Travis) It’s done.. It’s coming out on October 2nd and we’re really, really excited about it. We’re hoping that were ever we are on October 2nd..
>(Hunter) I think we’ll be in Baltimore.
>(Travis) ..we can just go into stores and hopefully they will have a copy. Just to see local kids purchasing out CD at a store would be awesome.
Yeah, I can’t even imagine what it’s like to anticipate something this big to happen, because it’s something that you guys created.
>(Travis) Exactly.
>(Hunter) Yeah it’s been a process for sure.
>(Travis) Us four have been together for four years now, all through high school, and we all grew up together. It’s almost like a dream come true that something like this could happen.
I was on your page the other day and I was reading something and I saw something that mentioned your influences being of your home town, where you grew up.
>(Travis) Most of the songs are directly related to Bradenton, but it doesn’t really encompass Bradenton. You can live in a different city and it relates to you just as much. We used certain streets and we even used the name Braden Town in a recording track.
>(Hunter) We mention Skyway Avenue, the beach, and just stuff about tourist girls.
>(Travis) We felt it was important to add to the record to just try and rep our home town.
>(Hunter) Yeah, it’s almost like a rap album where they yell out the area code of their hood. We’re not from the hood we just love the people we grew up with, we’re doing this for them.
I remember my boss gave me a list of what he had and I saw We the Kings and it was self titled and I’m a big fan of self titled albums so I went for it first.
>(Travis) Well, I think the purpose of our first album being a self titled is because we were really focused on the songs and the people they were about and the people that we are. You obviously cant have a second self titled record unless you name it “self titled” but we’ll definitely name our second record something. We just wanted to be like; this is what We the Kings is and nothing else extra.
>(Hunter) It just shows our true colors.
>(Travis) All the songs were written within the last year. When we were writing them we wanted every song to be as meaningful as the next. All the lyrics, everything about every songs, how they’re put together made them moving towards us and we just hope they are moving to other people too.
The songs definitely seem to grab you and all the songs are so easy to remember..
>(Travis) Yeah that’s good. I really do think that it’s a deep record as much as this style of music. Most people think it’s not deep at all “pop rock” people just think it’s all about girls. We just try to make it as meaningful as possible.
So how are you guys liking S-Curve, how’d you guys get hooked up with them?
>(Hunter) We love S-Curve
>(Travis) They are awesome.
>(Hunter) It’s actually a long story..
>(Travis) To make a long story short, on purevolume.com they have a promo section right on the front page of the site in which we were included. Within that week we rose to the number one unsigned band. Then our current manager sent us a message saying “Hey, dig the tunes. Hit me back.” And that was it. We looked up the management company for Crush and we we’re like “no way this is him.” We sent back and two weeks later we were talking on the phone and everything and they flew us up. We demoed a couple songs, met our producers, and gave them a CD with 27 songs. I told them I knew we couldn’t put 27 songs on a CD but we could pick out the best and work on them. We had an amazing response from labels wanting to work with us and have us with our band. We went with S-Curve because they were the most down to earth people and they felt the best. (Hunter) They just felt genuine. I don’t know if it’s like a sixth sense because we’re from Bradenton and we’ve met so many genuine people. Just so many people that had been there for us and we just felt right with S-Curve.
>(Hunter) They just felt genuine. I don’t know if it’s like a sixth sense because we’re from Bradenton and we’ve met so many genuine people. Just so many people that had been there for us and we just felt right with S-Curve.
How do you like touring with all these guys?
>(Travis) It’s good. It was kind of a bummer when Valencia had to go home. The singer had strep throat and it was 2 ½ weeks into the tour and that’s when you really start figuring people out. We took the Bradenton and just hung out. Just Surrender and Metro Station just seem like our “band brothers.” They’re all just incredible dudes and it’s just awesome.
What are your plans for after this?
>(Travis) We have two or tree days off.
>(Hunter) We start touring again on the 30th with Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, and the Audition.
>(Travis) Actually, the only one of those bands we haven’t played with is All Time Low.
Just out of curiosity, what did you guys grow up listening too?
>(Hunter) I would say the only reason I love music the way it is, is because of the Beatles. My dad really instilled every single album. Actually, my favorite is Abby Road and I was going to get a tattoo on my fore arm of them walking across the street.
(Travis) For me, definitely Blink 182, but other than that Jimmy Eat World, Third Eye Blind, and AC/DC. It was almost a mixture of what we liked as kids and what our parents listened too.
Are you guys excited about playing in here tonight?
>(Hunter) Oh definitely. We’ve never been here before.
>(Travis) We did play somewhere in St. Louis in the smallest venue ever. It was in a basement but it was the coolest thing ever.
Yeah my friends are really ready to see you guys play tonight. Especially these two girls, they’re crazy. Think you guys would be interested in saying “hi?”
>(Hunter) Definitely. We’d love to do that.
