First off, can you introduce yourself and what you do/play in the band?
>my name is aaron rothe and i play keyboards.
We were a big fan of "In Vogue," How was the transition between that
album and "Worse Than A
Fairytale" in terms of writing, recording, and sound?
>With WTAF, i think we really found our own sound. We wanted to really
separate ourselves from the typical post-hardcore sound that you hear
so much of. We definitely still have that ddg flare but we took it a
little further than in vogue. it's a much darker album and heavier
too. we stayed away from the triplet breakdowns and all of the
elements of the genre that are so over done. But i definitely dont
feel that we took it too far. We are very proud of it and what we have
accomplished musically and how much we have grown over the last year.
How was it like working with Ross Robinson in the production of the
record?
>It was intense to say the least. but overall it was an amazing
experience and we learned a lot and he really helped us find what we
wanted to play. he strips down everything and gets straight to the
point of your music.
We really dig the conceptual creativeness that this album has. Where
did you get the ideas for
the serial killer and fictional town, Saylor Lake?
>Our singer Danny Stills does all of the lyrics and he has been writing
down ideas and concepts since we got done recording In Vogue. We all
thought it was a great idea and we could really do our own thing with
it.
What are some of your influences, for this album, and in general?
>Ross has a way of almost making you forget about influences and he
teaches you to play with how you feel inside. It is a very dark and
angry album and it was really inspired by what we were all feeling
inside. But for the last year we have been listening to a lot of
glassjaw, old slipknot, and at the drive in (which are all ironically
RR bands), but we look up to those bands a lot especially because they
did their own thing.
What drew you to Suretone, after coming from the promising label Rise
Records?
>When we went to LA to meet with Suretone, we sat in Jordan Schur's
office and talked for about 5 hours. He told us everything that label
is about and we met all of his staff. And they asked us what we were
looking for in a label too. We were a little scared of signing to such
a big label and being forced to sound a certain way and change who we
are..basically selling out. But what is so awesome about Suretone is
before anything is decided, they ask us what we think and they back us
up 110% on all of our decisions no matter who is doubting us. It is a
mutual respect and we would not want to be with any other label.
When you guys first started off, what was it like touring with a hit EP
and still being in
high school?
>I was out of high school but it was difficult for kyle and danny
cooper, who were the 2 still in high school. We started touring at the
end of their junior year and they both dropped out and did online
classes for their senior year. Touring has always been pretty good for
us. It was really rough for a while and we had no money and no food
and we were all sick but it was worth it to play music for new people
every night. We have been very fortunate in the touring area.
Are you guys having fun on this years Warped Tour? How many years have
you been on it?
>This is our first year and we are loving it. It is really tiring and a
lot of hard work but luckily we are sharing a tour bus with A Static
Lullaby and don't have to do the insanely long drives in a van. Warped
is so great and its a dream come true to be a part of it.
What is something that you guys can't live with out while on tour?
>for me it's an iPod. Music is an escape for me and if i get pissed off
or just need to get away when im on tour, i always have something to
calm me down.
Also, where is your most favorite place to stop and eat while on the
road?
>Panda Express!
What is one of your most anticipated releases of 07?
>Every Time I Die and Still Remains
That about wraps it up, thanks for your time! Is there anything you
would like to say to the
