Can you first introduce yourself and tell us what you play in
the band?
>Joshua Ostrander, singer/guitar/piano from Eastern Conference Champions
We are really interested in your new album "Ameritown." How did
the writing and recording
process go for them?
>It was sort of a rush job on the writing end of it...we dont like to
rely on older material, so we had no songs prepared. We locked
ourselves in a practice studio for a couple months...recorded on our
rig everyday and everynite. And suddenly we had the record in our
hands.
How long did both the writing and recording process actually take?
>We had 3 to 4 months to write the whole record...and we spent 7 weeks
recording the record in the Catskill Mountains.
We love the art on the cover (especially the shotgun ambulance
font) who made it?
>I am very lucky to say that the band allows me to do all the
artwork. getting 3 people to agree on anything can be tough so I
take great pride in this.
Your bio says that at first, you guys opted out of a Major
label deal. Why did you do that?
>For the most part they didnt do anything, and they wouldnt allow us
to do anything. Even little things, like the mere task of updating
our website became a huge challenge. Greg and I figured we would
rather do it on our own...then Suretone came into the picture.
How do you guys feel being signed to Suretone?
>Couldn't be happier. I consider them to be the hardest working label
going right now. Now that Jordan has left Geffen, it seems he has
something to prove, and that kinda motivation inspires everybody.
How did your recent CD release shows, such as Hollywood,
Philly, and New York, go?
>It was a really great week for us. The highlight had to be the show
at The Khyber in philly. That was to date, the greatest show this
band has ever played.
What is something that you guys can't live without while on tour?
>Laptop. Map. Cigarettes.
Do you have any favorite places to stop and eat on the road?
>Cracker Barrel. Home cooked meal without blowing your pd for the day.
What is your most anticipated release of 07?
>Wilco's "Sky Blue Sky". Best band going in my opinion.
Where did you guys come up with the name ECC?
>When Greg and I were in our last band we started a recording project
with our friend Arch from the band Illinois. When the time came to
pick a name for this band, we just adopted it.
Do you guys ever think about adding another member, for
guitars or something else?
>We did talk about it, but we love the aspect of a 3 piece. And we
are very happy with the way the live show sounds.
What's the craziest thing a fan has done for you guys?
>Somebody bought me new shoes one time cause they saw i had a hole in
mine. I thought that was nice.
I think that about wraps it up. Thanks so much for answering
our questions. Is there anything
you would like to say to the readers of Skylinepress.net?
>thanks!
