Bryce (One Man Band)

The Rocket Summer - Warped Tour Interview

Hey man how is it going? First off state your name and role in the band please.

>My name is Bryce. Bryce Avery and I play guitar, keyboard and sing. But on the record I actually play all of the instruments.

You have a new record that just came out, tell us a little about that.

>It's great man I'm so excited. I couldn't be happier about the album and I guess so far it's selling well, if that's what you were wondering.

Yea I was digging what I've heard from it so far. But how'd the recording process go?

>It was awesome, I went to California for it and it was just really positive and was just really awesome.

So how long did it take you to complete?

>I started in November and took off on the 18th of December and I wasn't finished so I came back later and did harmonies and did my finishing touches to the album.

What were some of your main influences on the new album?

>Umm... It's weird, I don't know if other bands listen to stuff and say "Yea... I want to make an album like that" But I've never been that way I just kind of write songs and see what happens. I'm sure there was something that subconsciously that influenced me, but nothing I was aware of.

Do you commonly get a lot of comparisons? What are the most common?

>I don't really get "Oh you sound like this" but I get compared to Jacks Mannequin, Relient K, or Dashboard Confessional. I don't know if it's because of the solo guy thing or really just the bands we tour with.

Have you ever gotten compared to the Higher?

>You know, I've never really heard them that much. But the other day somebody was like "You should really check out the Higher, I think you'd really like it" But maybe I don't get that so much because they aren't really really big yet.

How has Warped treated you guys thus far?

>It's been a lot of fun so far, but we've only been playing for four dates.

Oh I didn't know that... which have been the best thus far for you though?

>Detroit was insane, Washington DC was insane.

Did you ever feel worried in Detroit? I'm from Michigan and I came here to Chicago instead because I didn't want my car broken into in Detroit.

>Yea.. I always hear about stuff. But I mean we were in a safe place there. But we have an amazing following in Detroit. We got stuck with a morning time in Detroit and we were so bummed about it. But when we got out and played there were a lot of people out there, even more than we had today for our time slot in Chicago. I think if we would have played later in Detroit we would have had even more people out to watch us. So I mean there are a lot of people in Detroit on the Rocket Summer train.

After Warped though, what are your touring plans?

>We're actually going out with The Academy is For a while... and after that it'll be 2008.

So do you get much say in who you go out on tour with?

>We do a little bit. But with a band like the Academy is... it's pretty much a no brainer.

Did you hear any of AP.net's predictions for your record sales in the first week?

>Who?

Absolutepunk.net

>Oh... I'm pretty sure we did 16K. Which is pretty sweet because we don't have radio ads or anything on MTV, so it was all our core fans.

Not yet anyways because your sound could easily be up there.

>Yea... Not yet.

But AP.net actually predicted from 14-16K in the first week for your new album. Anyways that's pretty much it for us at Skylinepress.net is there anything you'd like to leave our readers with before you go?

>Ummm.. Just thanks for the interview and anyone or everyone check us out sometime at our shows.
