To start on on a good foot, what's your name and what do you do in the
band?
>I am Kristofer Anaya and I sing in the band.
We were able to sample your album early and were really surprised how
you guys as a band had
progressed since you came onto the scene in 2000. How was the recording
and writing for "The Truth Is That You Are Alive?"
>Well it was a very long process. We actually recorded that whole record
at another studio with our friend Josh, and then I shipped it off to
Robert Cheek. He took a listen to it and then we spent about 2 months of
pre-production for the record, a lot of time. We are very proud of it
though.
How was it to work so closely with Robert Cheek, since he has produced
all of your albums so far?
> Beautiful. He will always be doing the albums with me and I have
already begun writing for the next record and developing the next concept
for it.
Many are supprised that An Angle signed to Drive Thru, citing that the
band's style reflects a
more indie/folk style which is different from their overall line up. What drew you to Drive Thru?
>Richard and Stefanie
are real fans and they give me a chance to be creative.
What are some of your main influences for your sound and this album?
>At the time I was listening to a lot of Randy Newman records. I really
like his story tales, but I was also rocking a lot of Tom Petty and Roy
Orbison. Maybe those came out on the record as well..
We see that you have sparing tour dates, do you guys like to take it
easy on tour or is it
hard to book indie acts?
> We want to tour so bad! Just get out there but
we have a no booking agent and it's hard to get tours.
While we are talking about tours, what has been your favorite venue
and place to stop and
catch a bite on the road?
> Hmm, favorite venue? I don't know if i have
one... Favorite place to stop and eat? Umm... Jimmy johns?
Also, has there ever been a fan that did or made something crazy or
cool for you guys?
>Oh yes, we have great fans. They are the greatest
fans you could ask for and most of them have become close friends to us.
From the food they give us and just the love! How could we not be friends
with great people. But the most crazy shit a fan has ever gave us was a
hotel and man it was amazing.
What is your most anticipated release of 2007?
>WILCO - SKY BLUE SKY!!
I think thats about it! Thanks so much for answering our questions.
Is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Skylinepress.net?
>I would like to say to the readers of Skylinepress.net, thank you for
allowing me to express my thoughts. I feel very lucky to be able to
continue doing this and if it wasn't for people like you it would be very
hard. Thank you so much.
