Darkest Hour - Interview

First off, i would like to congraulate you guys on your last album "Undoing Ruin," which is one of the best CDs of the Decade. What are the plans for the new CD? Have You started to write it yet?

>We will be recording in Late Feb./March with Devin Townsend again in Vancouver, BC. The new material is coming a long great and we are super stoked on it right now. So we cant wait for people to check it out and have some new songs to play live.

I noticed an interesting trend that before each new cd that you write, you go back and rerecord and/or remaster for a reissue from past darkest hour material. Is that to keep yourself true to the darkest hour sound?

>No I wish it could be as planed out as that but really its just coinicdence. I mean you can never have the old shit come out the same time new shit comes out so you have to space it out and thats what you get those releases coming out at strange times.

With the many different people that have graced different positions in the band, would you say that the latest line up of John, Ryan, Paul, Kris, and Mike, is the best?

>Yeah I mean this is definitely the best line up but you always say that when your in it. I can say we are definitly the most mature music wise that we have ever been. Total Members of DH including the current 5: 10.

How is the latest tour going with Soilwork and Mnemic?

>Sick man metal as hell. I mean the drama is being stabed, Ruin Undone, Soil Worked, Darkest Houred I mean we are going for it if you live near the tour come check that shit out!

How do you feel about getting the bulk of your discography finally getting put on iTunes?

>DUDE STOKED. I buy most of my music from ITUNES SO I AM STOKED. Let me say it agian We ARE STOKED AS FUCK!!!

What artists/albums are you most interested in this year?

>I really want to hear the new Thrice but that might not come out for a while and I am stoked to hear the new From Autumn To Ashes cause I cowrote some of those songs not sure what ones will make it on the record but I think it is gonna rule!

Who has been your greatest musical influence, for early Darkest Hour, and Darkest Hour now?

>Early DH: Entombed, In Flames, Dismember, Carcass..
New DH: Entombed, Slayer, Metalica, Caracass, Minor Threat...I mean we have really leared to draw on ALL our influences now to try to find our own sound you know..

Where did the name Darkest Hour come from?

>A list of bad band names. If you can imagen it was the BEST one! HA!

Since you guys do alot of touring, what is something that you can't live without while you travel the world and play shows?

>Dude I need two things to be able to take a shower and Chipolte or burrito's in general!

Do you have any interesting tales from the road or any stories of fans doing something amazing for you?

>Yeah I mean there are millions and to hard to type also the best ones will get certain people in trouble or worse arrested so lets just say buy the DVD or live it up with us....thats the only to get the real DH EXPERIENCE so come to a show and find us and MAKE US PARTY!!

As only one in a few bands that hail from DC, how does it feel to play a hometown gig?

>Dude I love it I mean DC is a killer place for music, especially punk music so we are stoked to hail from there and love to play at home I mean there is nothing better then looking out and seeing all your friends man its the best...

That about wraps it up. We can't wait for your new work. Anything you'd like to say to the readers of SkylinePress.net?

>Nah just party on keep rocking and we will see ya on the new record!!
