Yakuza - Interview

How do you guys think your album compares to the rest of the bands on the label? Would you say you guys bring a different style to the table as far as with Prosthetic Records, or would you say you guys fit right in with your other labelmates?

>We are the odd band out for sure. Still, our roots are firmly planted in metal so to speak, we are just open to other possibilites. So yeah, we fit. I mean I feel that we are as intense as any of the bands on the label.

What has been your overall reaction from fans upon release of your debut on Prosthetic, entitled "Samsara?"

>Seems that people who are already into the band like it. Others still are puzzled about what we do.

Were there any major themes used in the creation and recording of this album?

>Getting over some personal humps, to rise above after being beaten down...Not giving up, no matter what. Just wait for the next one. Now that we have risen above, it's fucking on.

What have been your major influences in creating your unique style of music?

>It's tough to pinpoint. It must have started with an open-minded listening palette. I mean there is so much readily available for you at your local Tower or online. If you love music, why not explore and NEVER let some record company blokes dictate what you like?

What are your views on today's metal scene? Do you believe that it's rapid growth in bands with the same generic sound is having an overall negative effect, or do you think that it's helping create larger fan bases?

>I don't care about scenes. And I don't care about fan bases or number crunching. Talk to our label rep, that's his concern. We are not part of any one scene. We hang with musicians from all sorts of different backgrounds and walks of life from all over the world.

With as unique of a sound as you guys have, have you guys ever recieved any negative feedback from close-minded metal fans, or have a lot of people maintained a supportive open mind to what you guys are doing?

>We don't care what people think. If I have heard it, it's been forgotten already. It's nice to hear praise, but it is not what drives us. Mostly it is positive so far.

How has tour been going for you guys? Any crazy stories thus far?

>We have done 70+ shows this year so far. Most have been great, but others not so great.

Any new material in the works?

>Almost a whole new recording. If we don't go to Europe in early 2007, we are going into the studio instead.

It's been great getting a chance to pick your guys mind on your views of today's metal scene, and I wish the best to you guys with touring. Are there any last words you'd like to leave us with?

>Thanks for the opportunity to speak. Thanks for the interest in the music...take a chance on something a bit out of the ordinary, don't just let others feed ya that same old shit.
