How long did it take to piece the album together?
>It took a while, Martin, John and I, have been playing in different
bands and projects for the last few years. But the whole record didn’t
really come together until this lineup. Plus, working with Matt Squire
was amazing. He helped us develop our sound and really pull the project
together.
Are there any guest appearances that we should know about?
>No, we just wanted to make a record that really showed us and who we
are as a band. We would love to eventually collaborate with other
artist(s), but maybe on the next record.
Who helped produce the album?
>Matt Squire produced and engineered our record. We couldn’t have asked
for a better person to work with. He gets deeply involved in every one
of the bands he works with, and really digs in to bring out the best of
every musician and aspect involved in the records he works on.
What are your guys' favorite tracks on the album?
>We are all really proud of each track. Its hard to pick and choose
between the songs. Its like each one is your child, and you cant play
favorites.
What's your favorite song to play live?
>Again, there are no favorites among us. But there is something to be
said about playing a song that we have put online and hearing the kids’
sing along in the crowd. To me, there isn’t a better feeling in the
world.
Was there any influences on this album, any points you were trying to
convey?
>Not really any influences... though, while in the studio all of us did
listen to a lot of Imogen Heap. You may be able to hear that in some of
our programming, but other than that, we each listen to different
styles of music and different bands, so, of course that will make its
way into our own individual style of playing.
How do you guys feel about your fan success in such a short time?
>We have been really lucky. We are still a very young band with a lot of
growing to do. But, the internet has been very good to us since our
start. Kids have been connecting with the myspace and purevolume sites.
And our album hasn’t even been released yet. Its pretty surreal.
What does it feel like knowing kids are insanely anticipating your new
album?
>Like I said before, its like our little baby, so I think the four of us
just might be anticipating the release more than anyone else. We really
want to share it with the world. We have poured our blood, sweat, and
tears into every note on this record. And for people to be in a similar
mindset as us, is just great.
I'd have to honestly say the new record is excessively addicting, is
this what
you went for or did it just turn out that way?
>We all did crack in the studio, and everyone knows how addicting that
stuff is. So I guess it just happened.
I’m kidding, we are all clean kids. Martin has a knack for creating
melodies and lyrics that just stick to you like glue. It has always
been his thing.
Pressing on, what's the craziest thing fans have done for you?
>A few fans have made a new website for us and it’s called “the BLG
fruit salad” it has each band member and a bunch of fans as fruits and
reasons why we are each fruit. Its more sweet than crazy.
What can't you live without on the road?
>The necessities are always nice. Food. Water. Sleep.
But the one thing you definitely take for granted until you get out on
the road, is a shower. I have grown a new appreciation for running
water.
Where's your favorite place to eat while on the road?
>I personally love the smaller places. Like, the privately owned
restaurants. Because, you wont find them in anywhere else. So when you
go back to that city you can go there instead of the chains that are
everywhere. Plus, they always have better food.
Any new CD's coming out this year you're anticipating?
>Permanent me. who just finished with matt squire. We are all looking
forward to the new Academy Is. Ummm, I think Third Eye Blind is coming
out with a new cd sometime this year. I hear the new As Tall As Lions
cd is amazing. And, we cant wait for the Cobra Starship record too.
For people who haven't quite heard you guys yet, how would you describe
yourselves?
>Well, im about 5’8. long blonde hair, green eyes.
Martin is 6’1 short dark brown hair, but its kind of moppy, and blue
eyes.
John is 5’6 long dark brown hair, brown eyes.
And paul is 8 feet tall. That kid is a monster!!! He’s trying out for
the Celtics next year.
We all have great smiles and better personalities.
But that doesn’t really answer your question, now does it?
Well thank you very much for your time and congrats on an amazing
record,
anything else you'd like to say to the viewers of Skyline Press before
I let you
go?
>Thank YOU for the interview, and the compliments on the record. I would
like to thank everyone who comes out to shows and supports us. As long
as you are there, we will be too.
