So, before we begin how about you guys introduce yourselves.
>My name is Kim Anderson and I sing and play bass in Flee the Seen.
Well, you have an album that came out not too long ago, titled "Doubt Becomes The New Addiction". How do you feel that whole recording process went?
>We actually tracked the entire record at our drummer, Aaron’s, recording studio. I think it was over-all a really good experience for us to go through together even though we did get into several fist fights and arm wrestling matches during the process (just kidding). Seriously though, we knew it would be difficult at times, but I would say that Aaron definitely had the hardest job out of any of us. He not only had to play his parts, but also track them, as well as all of ours. He pretty much could never get away from us for about a month. If one of us wasn’t spending the night to work on guitar parts, another one of us would be over the next morning to work on vocals. After we had finished tracking, we decided to send the recording to Jason McEntire at Sonic Temple in St. Louis. We had worked with him on a song previously and from the first time he heard us he just understood what we wanted to sound like without us ever explaining it to him. He worked on the tracks for a few weeks and then we went to St. Louis to do the final mix. This was probably the most fun part of the process for us because we were able to just get out of town and focus on the record, to see it all come together.
What are some of your major influences?
>We all like different kinds of music and are continually inspired by things we hear. Some of our favorite bands are Cursive, Thursday, Death Cab For Cutie, and Jimmy Eat World. There are also a lot of really great bands that came from Kansas City like the Anniversary and The Get Up Kids, that inspired us when we were younger to start playing music, and still effect us today. Recently we have really enjoyed seeing our friends in the Architects at a recent local show. They are an incredible rock and roll band from KC that truly inspire us as well.
I see you guys just finished with touring, how did that go for you?
>Touring was really awesome. Our CD came out on March 14th and we had a few CD release shows in our different home towns (St. Joseph – MO, Kansas City – MO, and Leavenworth – KS). We then hit the road right away to play at SXSW. From there we were out for about a month with Desole on Abacus Recordings. Those guys are great and that was an awesome way for us to get everything started. After that we joined up with Chasing Victory, the Odd Project, A Perfect Kiss, and Across 5 Aprils, for the next month and a half. When that tour was done, we went directly out with It Dies Today, Haste the Day, Chiodos, and The Showdown. All the bands were really incredible people and musicians and we feel really fortunate to have had this last four months of touring. Since all the tours were so different from each other we met a lot of really cool friends along the way.
We are really excited for our next tour that will be starting in September with Sullivan and our friends in Chasing Victory as well! The dates/venues are not confirmed yet, but as soon as they are we will post them on our Myspace and website.
How have things in your life changed since you became a band?
>Since we started the band our lives have all changed dramatically. Of course it didn’t happen overnight, but if you look back at where we all where 3 years ago, we all had totally different lives. I was going to be a dance teacher in Des Moines, IA (where I grew up) before I moved to Kansas City to play in the band. Manuel was a nursing student. RL also went to college to study music and played the trumpet before the band started up, and Aaron was in a band previously for about 5 years.
Who's your favorite artist on your label? (Facedown Records)
>It’s too hard to name just one of our favorite Facedown/Strike First bands, so I would say the ones we enjoy the most are Nodes of Ranvier, War of Ages, and Kingston Falls. Not only do we really like their music, but they are all such awesome people and have really been encouraging to us since we met them.
How do you guys feel you fit in with your label mates, do you think that fans of Facedown Records have noticed much of a difference in you guys compared to the rest of the bands on the label?
>Our style may be different from the other bands that are on Facedown/Strike First, but everyone involved with the label, including the bands, have always treated us like family and we feel truly fortunate to be involved with such a unique and supportive label.
Any particular places you favor playing?
>Of course we love playing shows in the Missouri/Kansas area, but some of our favorite places we’ve played on tour would have to be in California, Indianapolis, Michigan, and Virginia Beach.
What have been some of your favorite bands to play/tour with?
>I’d say the best show we ever had the opportunity to play was when we opened for Coheed and Cambria last December. The local KC radio station, 96.5 the Buzz, puts on shows and when they brought Coheed in to town they asked us to open for them, as well as The New Amsterdams. We really love both bands and would have looked forward to just going to the show, let alone playing it! It was really an amazing time! We also had the opportunity last summer to open for Alkaline Trio in Lawrence, KS and this was also amazing for us!
What bands would you like to tour with in the future?
>There are so many bands that we would love to tour with, and it would be hard to really narrow it down. In a perfect world we would definitely like to tour with The Forecast, Thursday, Murder by Death, and Jimmy Eat World. That would be an awesome tour! Honestly though, we just want to tour and meet as many bands and people as possible because there is nothing like making friends with other people that inspire us!
What can fans expect from Flee The Seen for the rest of 2006?
>We plan to tour for the remainder of the year. We do have a break until September right now, so we are currently starting to write for our next record, which is exciting and fun for us! We are also going to shoot another video for the record, so look for that hopefully later this year or early next year.
Would you like to say anything to the readers of Skylinepress.net?
>Thanks for checking us out and please check back on our Myspace and website for updates on tours and news. We really appreciate your time and interest in our band! Thanks!
